Each resident recieves a standard analog telephone port (jack) in his or her bedroom area. This port will accept a standard phone jack, and will provide live dial tone to the phone. Residents who opt to use the provided jack and dial tone will need to furnish their own phone and plug it into this jack.
Each resident will also be provided with a PBN (personal billing number), which will be required in order to place calls outside of University Center. This protects against fraudulent billing from unauthorized users using your phone, and also allows you to be properly billed to your own account for calls you make using any phone within the building.
Unlimited calling within the building is included, when dialed internally using 4-digit dialing.
Unlimited local calling outside the building (within a 15-mile radius) at no charge are provided for Residents.
UC rates for calls outside the local area, but within the continental United States, are 5.9¢ per minute or for $5.95 a month, residents can receive a rate of 2.9¢ per minute. Click here to see usage rates for international calls.
One standard analog telephone (hunter green in color for identification purposes) is provided at no charge in every semi-suite room and in each apartment.
- In apartments, the phone will be plugged into and associated with a jack in a common area, such as the kitchen or living room.
- In suites, the phone will be plugged into and associated with one of the individual resident phone jacks. This phone line will have all of the capabilities of any individual resident line.
The purpose of the UC provided phone in each unit is to ensure that all residents have access to at least one phone connected to live dial tone, with access to emergency services. This also provides management and security with the ability to call into each unit to enhance communication with residents. These phones are not to be removed or disconnected for any reason.

The IP phone capabilities at University Center are "state-of-the-art." In addition to providing dial tone to traditional telephones via the building phone cabling, IP service also can process phone calls over the UC LAN to residents who prefer to use an IP phone. IP phones are available in a "hard phone" model - the Cisco 7970, or in a "soft phone" version, which is software that is installed on the user's PC and allows the PC to emulate a telephone.
